Community Engagement Guide

The following guide emerged from a Transforming Shorelines Collaborative organized by the San Francisco Estuary Partnership on October 1, 2025.  The event was an in-person meeting at the Bay Area Metro Center. The workshop presentations as well as meeting summary and notes are available on the Transforming Shorelines Collaborative webpage.
This in person meeting was designed to provide opportunities for local agencies, municipalities, and resilience practitioners, and other interested parties to learn and ask questions about community engagement for nature-based solutions (NBS) in San Francisco Bay. The expert panel will featured local community-based organizations involved with on-the-ground community engagement for NBS in different phases of implementation.
Meeting Goals: (a) Highlight community engagement best practices across an adaptive management cycle for nature-based solutions projects and (b) ideate with participants around key opportunities and challenges.  The final output after the meeting will be a guide for community engagement around NBS at each phase of the adaptive management cycle.
