Released: May 24, 2016

The San Francisco Estuary Partnership’s (SFEP) base funding bill, S1523, has made it out of the United States House and the Senate and is now awaiting approval from the President. The SFEP, along with the other 27 other national Estuary Programs, was established by Congress to improve the waters, habitats and living resources of 28 estuaries across the country.

Program funding authorization expired in 2010 and funding was provided on a yearly basis while several unsuccessful reauthorization attempts occurred. Getting the bill to the President’s desk is a significant accomplishment, demonstrating strong national support for the Estuary Program.
