State of the Estuary Conference

The 2021 State of the Estuary Summit did not host an awards ceremony. Awards will be presented again when we return to our traditional in-person format in 2023. Thank you!

Jean Auer Environmental Award

The Jean Auer Environmental Award is given in memory of Jean Auer, a beloved Bay Area environmentalist whose groundbreaking efforts were directed particularly at improving water management in California. The award was presented at the fourteenth biennial State of the Estuary Conference, October 21-22, 2019, at the Scottish Rite Center near Lake Merritt in Oakland. For more on the 2019 awardee, visit https://www.sfestuary.org/soe/jeanaueraward/.

Outstanding Environmental Project Award

Every two years, Friends of the San Francisco Estuary presents awards to outstanding environmental projects that benefit the San Francisco Bay-Delta Estuary and its watersheds. These awards are given out at the biennial State of the Estuary Conference. Qualified projects significantly benefit the Estuary; show measurable results, and have not been externally mandated (for example, to resolve an enforcement action). Projects represent diverse locations, environmental categories, and project sponsors. For more on the 2019 recognized projects, visit https://www.sfestuary.org/soe/envmtlprojectaward/.

Creative Environmental Award

This year, Friends of the San Francisco Estuary included a new award for artwork that shares knowledge, educates, and incites action to protect and improve the Estuary. The awards were presented at the fourteenth biennial State of the Estuary Conference, on October 22, 2019. For more on the awardees, visit sfestuary.org/soe/creativeawards/.
