Outstanding Environmental Projects

Nominations Due July 22, 2011

Friends of the San Francisco Estuary is seeking nominations of outstanding environmental projects that benefit the San Francisco Bay-Delta Estuary and its watersheds.

Awards for outstanding projects will be presented at the State of the Estuary Conference to be held in September 2011 in Oakland. The awards are intended to highlight outstanding achievements and thank the organizations responsible.

The nominated projects should fall into one or more of the categories given below:

Wildlife Land Use and Waterway
Wetlands Management Public Involvement and Education

These categories are taken from the revised Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP), a blueprint for restoring and maintaining the chemical, physical and biological integrity of the Bay-Delta Estuary and its watershed. The CCMP was developed by the San Francisco Estuary Partnership, one of 28 estuary programs in the National Estuary Program.

The State of the Estuary Conference is held every two years and will be held next on September 19 and 20, 2011, at the Downtown Oakland Marriott Hotel. The conference is sponsored by the San Francisco Estuary Partnership, Friends of the San Francisco Estuary, the State Coastal Conservancy and many local, state and federal agencies, businesses and non-profit organizations. The conference will include science/policy discussions, invited technical presentations, a poster session, and evening reception.

Nominated projects must fall within the above categories, significantly benefit the Estuary, be completed or show measurable results, and should not have been externally mandated (for example, to resolve an enforcement action).
