Hicks Flat Mercury Remediation
The partners will remediate an estimated 2,700 cubic yards of mercury mining waste rock at Hicks Flat, located in the Guadalupe River Watershed in Santa Clara County. The site lies within the New Almaden Mercury Mining District and was historically used as a waste rock disposal area for the Guadalupe Mines. Controlling erosion of these mine spoils will reduce mercury loads to the Guadalupe River, the South Bay Salt Ponds, and the Estuary.

This project is funded by a 319h NPS grant from Region IX, U.S. EPA, administered by the State Water Resources Control Board.
